September 2012

Justin Amick is no stranger to the restaurant business. As a child, he watched his father grow the Peasant Restaurants Group to more than 42 locations nationally. Today, Amick and his father work side by side in their family business, Concentrics Restaurants and Hospitality, based out of Atlanta. Concentrics Restaurants, which owns and develops nationally successful restaurant concepts, currently boasts more than 15 properties in five states.

Amick attended Tulane University on a basketball scholarship, and while playing for the “Green Wave” and receiving his business degree, Amick explored the best of New Orleans’s culinary offerings, further solidifying his love of food and wine. Following graduation in 2004, Amick moved to New York City where he was hired into Chef Tom Colicchio’s Craft restaurant’s “Management Training Program.” After honing his restaurant chops in front and back of the house positions for three years, he relocated to the Napa Valley where he worked for the Trinchero Family Estates winemaking team.

Today, Amick is the general manger and beverage director for Concentrics Restaurants’ The Spence in Atlanta. Furthermore, he has a heavy hand in developing beverage programs for Concentrics’ consulting arm.

In October 2011, Amick became the proud recipient of the prestigious Rudd Scholarship from The Court of Master Sommeliers. The Rudd Scholarship honors the individual with the highest combined score in the Advanced Sommelier Exam, and there are three Rudd Scholarship recipients per year. The Court’s intensive educational program guides aspiring Masters through four increasingly rigorous levels of coursework and examination, culminating in the Master Sommelier Diploma Examination.

Amick has been featured in The New York Post, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Atlanta Business Chronicle, Wine Business, Southern Living and, most recently, on as part of the “new wave of vino pros.” He was also a featured judge on The Food Network’s “Bobby Flay’s Throwdown.”
