SAMUEL GOLDWYN FILMS POURS BACK
INTO THEATERS WITH
SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE

Jason Wise’s follow up to the cult-hit SOMM - an iTunes number 1 documentary film and “Editor’s Choice Film” pick - will be released in 2015

Samuel Goldwyn Films proudly announced today that the company is acquiring North American rights to SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE, the follow up to writer/director Jason Wise’s 2013 cult-hit SOMM. SOMM allowed viewers to experience the elusive journey to becoming a Master Sommelier, while with SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE, Wise gives the viewers an untraditional sequel, a film that lifts the veil over the wine industry and allows viewers intimate access to the most accomplished Sommeliers in the world as well as some of the most prestigious winemakers working today, and was filmed in dozens of wine regions around the world. Tricks of the trade are revealed and insider knowledge is shared.

Jason Wise’s SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE raises the curtain into the seldom seen world that surrounds
the wine we drink. How many people understand how wine is produced? How it is grown? What goes on
in the cellar? From those questions to how many hands touch a bottle, to why wine costs what it costs, to
how certain wines end up on a wine list, this is a never before seen look into the world of wine.

By opening some of the world’s most rare bottles of wine the viewer will understand how a wine ages, what happens in a cellar and exactly what oak in wine means. We take a look at how history has impacted wine, from the Romans, to Prohibition, to the World Wars and even current events such as the Napa Earthquake.

Through the eyes of the world’s greatest Somms and Winemakers, we discover that far more than just grapes go into the bottle.

A Forgotten Man Films production, SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE is written and directed by Jason Wise, produced by Wise and Christina Wise and Jackson Myers. Executive produced by Diane Carpenter and William Fowler. Original SOMM cast members Brian McClintic, DLynn Proctor, Dustin Wilson, Ian Cauble, Fred Dame, Geoff Kruth, Sabato Sagaria, and many more including famed winemakers Jean Louis Chave, Peter Gago, and Steve Matthiasson share their insight and intimate knowledge of the industry in this captivating behind the scenes look at one of the most elusive businesses in the world.

Goldwyn plans a 2015 release.

Similarly to the innovative SOMM campaign, Goldwyn plans to host special event screenings around the country on behalf of the film to build buzz leading up to its release. Screenings for SOMM were held at some of the most exclusive, luxurious resorts in the country, including the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara, The Grand Del Mar in San Diego, the Montage Laguna in Laguna Beach, the world renowned Pebble Beach Food & Wine event and the famed auction house Christie’s in New York City. Additionally, pop up wine bars at various theaters around the country coinciding with opening weekend screenings helped create additional word of mouth and an “event” type feel to the release.

According to Peter Goldwyn, Senior Vice President of Samuel Goldwyn Films: “SOMM was and continues to be an ‘essential’ viewing for the wine industry, as well as a completely entertaining film for people who know nothing about the business or what it is they’re even drinking! SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE will take it one step further and, like its predecessor, can be enjoyed by wine connoisseurs or newbies who just like to drink!”

Filmmaker Jason Wise added: “SOMM was a great introduction into the world of Sommeliers but I still wanted to delve deeper into the profession and the wine industry as a whole, one of the most complex and oldest businesses in the world. You will want a glass in your hand to watch this film.”

The deal was negotiated by Ian Puente, Vice President and General Counsel of Samuel Goldwyn Films and Michael Donaldson and Chris Perez at Donaldson + Callif on behalf of the filmmakers.
