Shrimp and Grits, Pork with Bacon Broth: A Decadent Weekend of Southern Flavors In Atlanta

Fearrington Village, NC. May 21, 2015 – The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival will welcome the region’s foremost culinary talents to celebrate all things Southern from May 28 – 31, 2015. Fearrington’s own Chef Colin Bedford is one of more than 250 epicurean superstars who will convene for a unique weekend in the heart of Atlanta.

Chef Bedford joins an incredible ensemble of Southern-based chefs, restaurateurs, and sommeliers to comprise the Advisory Council, which serves as the voice of the Festival. Its members are committed to blending home grown traditions with diverse international cultures and flavors, making this weekend unlike any other culinary festival in the region.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity this year to participate in this event, said Chef Bedford. “I’ll be serving up Shrimp & Anson Mills Grits with Hickory Grove cream, red pepper puree and bacon jam at the Connoisseur Breakfast -Southern Elegance on Friday, May 29, and in the Tasting Tents later that day, we’ll be sharing pressed Heritage Farms pork with bacon broth, smoked onions and apple cider BBQ.

“As a chef in the South, I have access to an abundance of fresh ingredients from some of the finest regional producers, and I enjoy creating an interplay between my own British influences with these flavors in the seasonal menus we offer at Fearrington.”

Now in its fifth year, the Festival will delve deeper into the customs and influences that showcase the South in an authentic and modern way. By drawing inspiration from three key themes: Old Traditions, New Traditions and Imports & Inspirations, which is also referred to as “other Southern,” this milestone anniversary will bring more surprises from the kitchen and exhibit the South in a whole new light. “We are extremely fortunate to work alongside such remarkable talent that shares the same passion for creating a one-of-a-kind culinary experience as we do,” says Festival Co-Founder Dominique Love. “Our collaborations with chefs and restaurateurs who have put Southern cuisine on the map is a huge part of our success. We are so grateful to them for not only sharing their expertise but for continuously inspiring us to explore and celebrate Southern craft.”

The 80-plus member Advisory Council is dedicated to the development of the Festival’s highly praised programming and their involvement is reflected through entertaining cooking and cocktail demonstrations, tasting seminars, Learning Experiences, Tasting Tents, unique ticketed dinners and Southern-style evening events.
