TOSCANA RESTAURANT PRESENTS A WINEMAKER DINNER WITH MASSIMO PICCIN OF PODERE SAPAIO

TOSCANA welcomes Winemaker Massimo Piccin of Podere Sapaio for a vertical tasting of their award-winning wines paired with the cuisine of Toscana on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Piccin will be present introduce his wines from the exceptional winery in Bolgheri, Italy. The five course Tuscan menu by Chef Hugo Vasquez will be paired with seven wines – beginning with a terroir-driven wine from Sicily and six from the Podere Sapaio collection.

This small winery from Bolgheri, located between Castagneto Carducci and Bibbona, has been gaining enormous popularity, winning the highest recognition of Tre Bicchieri for its 2006-2011 vintages from Italy’s prestigious Gambero Rosso. The wines are also a favorite of the regular guests of Toscana and Bar Toscana. Inspired by the philosophy of this young winery, Wine Director Emily Johnston will present a vertical tasting and pairing of the Sapaio Bolgheri Superiore 2007-2011 vintages to be matched with a menu by Executive Chef Hugo Vasquez.

Podere Sapaio produces two estate wines made of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot: the Volpolo Bolgheri Rosso DOC and the Sapaio Bolgheri DOC Superiore. Although sourced from different vineyards, both are hand-picked and aged in French Oak: the Volpolo for 14 months and the Superiore for 18 months. The wines successfully express terroir and longevity, and are an applauded example of the modern wine region of Bolgheri. The winery makes only 100,000 bottles a year.
